The Cusp of Adulthood
A space of my own
Living in Singapore, intergenerational households are the norm, while the question of moving out comes after securing a BTO (with a partner). However, having personally lived apart from my parents for a year, I found that the disincentives of practicality, pragmatism, and prudence robs many young adults of an irreplaceable part of their lived experience.
Enter Sara and Lucas, both at the cusp of adulthood and each with their own reasons for desiring to make the unconventional move into a rented apartment. Only being able to do so after meeting the other, this retroactive interview of the two friends, which I had a hand in connecting, is a chronicle of their reasons, struggle, enablers, and aspirations that influence their journey in finding ‘A Space of my Own’ – all while backdropped by a seemingly chaotic friendship with pockets of peace and reflection.
